Inspiron 2500 Network port

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

I just checked your order and did not see a network card included.  You may want to verify this by using the hardware scan on the main support page.

1. Go to the main support page.
2. Click on the Services & Warranties link.
3. Choose the Current System Configuration tab.
4. Accept the agreement.
5. Look for the network card on your system.

Or open the door on the bottom and look at the mini-PCI card - if there is just a 2-wire harness to it, you only have a modem.  If two harnesses to the card, then it is the combo and most likely driver related.  Look in the BIOS also at the mini-PCI device and see if it is enabled and what is reported (MODEM or COMBO).

Thanks for the replies.  It probably is not connected.  A friend has a spare PCMCIA - RJ45 adapter card & cable which he is giving me, as time is short as I am leaving the country for a term abroad and need the network connection capability before I leave.

From your IM you only have a modem card, not the NIC/modem combo.  If you want one, call Dell Spare Parts and order the Actiontec combo card, or google search 3CN3AC1556 and get a 3Com.

Many thanks, 'phoned Dell UK, transfered to their Indian call-centre which transfered me to an external firm providing spare parts.

The combo card is in stock at £79 +VAT, will be with me in 1-2 days.
