Inspiron 4000 - Which Modem ?

Recently purchased a refurbished Inspiron 4000. How do I find out which make/type of modem I have in this machine ? I've checked out the downloads section of the Dell site and found many different modem drivers - how do I disocover which is the right one for my machine ?

You either have the Actiontec (use the 8.30 link in my sig below) or the 3Com.  Go to the 3Com site for the 3CN3AC1556 driver, then the Windows Update site for the latest.  Look under the cover on the bottom of the notebook at the mini-PCI card (the one not a slim memory module (2 posible)) - if there is also a 12-wire cable plugged to the card you have a combo NIC/modem.

Thanks for your help. I looked inside the machine and I have an actiontec mp560lh modem. It has two connections - one with 2 wires and one with 12 wires. I assumed that I had the combo card and downloaded the 8552 ethernet drivers from the link in John's signature. Still can't get the thing to work though - for one thing couldn't find any installation instructions and was at a loss as to how to set the thing up - for a second, I trawled through all the files with the hardware installation wizard and could not find any drivers that recognised my card. This is driving me nuts - Help !

The 8255x driver was for the ethernet half of the combo card - use the 8.30 Agere/Lucent link to get the driver for that modem - the latest right from the manufacturer and the fastest connections.
