inspiron 5100 internet
i have a 2002 5100 that i am trying to hook up to my home internet, wireless to house then cable connected to computer. my laptop has a ethernet port and a phone port, which do i use as my modem cable fits only in ethernet.

Your setup should look like...
wall > cable modem/router > wireless router(if any) > wired/wireless
You'll connect your laptop to the router to setup things, using the ethernet cable. It will go in the numbered posts, if you have a wireless router.
Did the cable company setup the cable modem? Is it wireless? If yes, then should have given you a SSID and password to get on your network. This will be needed to get online using the wireless connection.
