Thanks Steve, unfortunately, that did not correct the problem. I show to be connected but cannot display any websites. Any more suggestions would be appreciated.
Open a command prompt window by going to Start > Run and typing
cmd then click on OK. In the command prompt window type
ipconfig /all the hit the Enter key. Copy the output from that command and paste it inot a reply to this message. That may give us some hints as to what is wrong.
The ping test says that you network card is working. When you posted the first ipconfig output, was the network card plugged in to the router? If not, then it was a pretty useless test, because it just told us that the network card was not plugged in to the router. The second ipconfig output you posted shows that it the network card is not getting an IP address from the router. With the network card plugged in to the router, go to the command prompt window again and type
ipconfig /release /renew then hit the Enter key. Report back the output of that command.
You are not getting an IP address, and thus you getting assigned an autoconfigutaton IP address. So that's why you can't connect. Winsockfix usually corrects this problem, but apparently does not in your case. Have you, by any chance, recently removed Norton Antivirus or another Symantec program from your computer?
Removal of some versions of Symantec Products leaves behind a registry key that prevents the Windows dhcp client from starting until the Symantec product starts. Since the Symantec product is no longer present, the dhcp client never starts, therefore the computer can never get an IP address. You might want to check to see if the dchp client has started and is running on your machine. To do this, go to Start > Run and type
services.msc then click on OK. Look for DHCP client and see if it is started and running. Report back what you find.
Well, I'm really puzzled now. Try running the procedure in
This document. It should do the same thing as the winsockfix program was supposed to do, but since I'm running out of ideas, it's worth a try. You might also want to try updating the drivers for your network adapter by downloading the drivers from
Here.

O.K. Steve, I am completely out of suggestions. I do appreciate the help though. I did learn a great deal by them. If you or anyone else can come up with anything else, I am open for all suggestions, as long as they are clean.
