Inspiron 6000 wireless problems

I just got home from college where i use their network to connect to the internet. My house here has a wireless network through linksys and two of our computers here work on it but my laptop says there are no wireless networks in range when I try to connect to it. Any ideas of what I can try? I've disabled the firewalls. Also, how do I turn the wireless switch on? I just read that that might be the problem.

First, please check to make sure your wireless connection is the same standard (IE... A\B\G wireless). The one you used at school could be a different one than you use at home. Second, check with the person that setup your home network. You may need to have the MAC (machine access code) entered into the home router. Third, Check the DCHP pool tables. If the home router is limted to the amount of IP address that can be released then you will have to change that. Fourth, You may need to adjust your wireless settings to accept the new (home) SSID. I hope this helps.

Is your notebook's Wi-Fi indicator on?

You can also check the status of your wireless adapter in your notebook's BIOS.

Might also if you list what wireless adapter you have on your notebook and which Linksys router you have in your house - to make sure you have a compatible wireless standard between devices.  Make sure your router's SSID is broadcasting as some wireless connection managers can't "see" hidden SSIDs.
