inspiron 600m driver problems

hi, i have a dell inspiron 600m, and i recently reinstalled windows and reformated my hard drive. i lost my drivers cd, so i was using the dell support website. i downloaded some drivers however i cant get my ethernet drivers and several other drivers in my device manager to work. they have that yellow question mark next to the drivers. the following drivers are: ethernet controller, multimedia audio controller, network controller, pci modem, and 02Micro OZ711EC1 Smartcardbus controller. i downloaded the following drivers: O2Micro O2711EC1 PCMCIA/SmartCard Controller, ATI Mobility Radeon 9000, Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller, and  Dell Inspiron 600m System BIOS but still cant get the drivers to be installed properly. i installed them in that order as well. can someone please help me out and tell me if im missing something. i need to get my internet started for my laptop. thanks

As stated in thousands of other messages in these forums (I know I state 4 or 5 times a day), after reinstalling Windows, the first device drivers that must be installed are the chipset drivers.   Windows will not be able to recognize of install drivers for many devices unitl the chipset drivers are present.  After the chipset drivers are installed, it doesn't matter which order you install the other drivers.

Today I reformatted my Dell Inspiron 600m hard drive then reinstalled the Windows XPsp1,. All went well until I tried to install the drivers. I have no wireless internet connection (my computer came with Centrino) or  sound, so I went to system properties and check the devices. Here are the drivers it listed as needed to be installed or updated. I clicked on update driver with my CD with Drivers , but it said it was unable to find them. Strange...I never had this problem in the past.

Other devices

Ethernet Controller, Multimedia Audio Controller, Network Controller, 02 Micro SmartCardBus_Reader, PCI Modem, Video Controller (VGA Compatible). Any idea how I can get my computer working like it should?

Thanks,

William

William,

The Desktop/Notebook Utility needs to be installed first(if applicable), then the chipset drivers. If they are NOT installed first, then the rest of the drivers will fail to install.

Since the operating system was re-installed did you remember to go to drivers and downloads, enter your service tag(DO NOT POST SERVICE TAG here or your post will get deleted, since it contains your personal information), and install these drivers in this order.

:emotion-55: Hint :emotion-55: When downloading the drivers, make a folder for each drivers and name it with the device it belongs with to make it easier to install them in the proper order.

Desktop System Software or Notebook System Software(if applicable)
Chipset or SMBus driver
Processor Driver (if applicable)
Video
Audio (sound)
Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse)
Modem
Network Card

QuickSet(Laptop only)
