Inspiron 8000 problems

I am working on an Inspiron 8000 that is having problems with the NIC card and the PCI bus. The computer is refurbished and does not have the same original hardware nor do I have the Windows 2000 Pro cd that I need. Can anyone email me or point to a link where I can download the Dell utility that self detects the hardware, so that I can download the proper drivers. I have looked through the knowledge base and it seems that they can do this, but only if you are connected to the inet. Also the download section does not seem to have this program. Thank you in advance

There is no Dell detect software, Windows usually does that.

To see if you have or to find out what NIC you have open the cover on the bottom and look at the mini-PCI slot.  It will either be an Actiontec 8255x based card (best driver for that and the modem are linked in my sig below) or the 3Com 3CN3AC1556B combo card and the Windows Update site is the best drivers.

All other best/latest drivers and chipset support are under the Downloads tab above.
