Inspiron 8200 wireless connection problems

I have a Tenda router and Realtek USB wireless adapter.  My 8200 has XP svce pk3.  The adapter will not stay connected. Some times it shows connected with 100% signal strength and after few seconds drops out.  I cannot find any radio switch on this laptop.  Fn/F2 does not work and there is no mention of wireless in the bios settings.  I feel that the radio is not switched on but how do I do this??  Is my configuration incorrect?

Any help would be appreciated

Hi Ramon2791,

Please let us know the model number for the USB wireless adapter that you are using. Also, let us know if you have tried to connect using internal wireless card.

Kindly check other device like a phone or system on the same router and check if connection drops on them as well.

Let us know of this information so we can advise you further.

Thanks and Regards

Thanks for your quick response.

The Realtek adapter is chipset 8191 also states IEEE802.11N on the adapter

When I first plug it in it connects showing 100% strength and 100% link quality.  It then disconnects.

Some times it will reconnect and again disconnect.

A box on the task  bar then states Unable to Connect to Preferred Network.

There are no other devices connected to the router although my new laptop Dell Inspiron 15r is connected by wireless.

I am trying to use my old Inspiron 8200 in another part of the house although at the moment they are in the same room until I solve the connection problems.

Hi Ramon2791,

Thanks for providing us this information. Please let me know if Inspiron 15r is working fine on the router. Also check the link below for updating the drivers for your Realtek USB card:

www.realtek.com.tw/.../downloadsView.aspx

Also, if the system was working fine earlier you can perform system restore following the steps below:

If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact us.

Thanks and Regards
