Inspiron E1705 Keeps Losing Wireless Network Connection

New PC and tech support has been pretty good except haven't solved the problem of losing the wireless network connection.  They have the pc starting up in SELECTIVE Startup, which only loads the programs neccessary.  But eventually lost the connection anyways. So, it doesn't seem to be anything in the startup.  Maybe its the Windows Firewall, or McAffee, or the Wireless card timing out.  It finds the connection, locks in and signal is excellent.
Any ideas would be appreciated, besides returning the piece of junk...just kidding.

Sounds like a driver issue, not hardware. i am still running XP on my E1705.

have you set it up to auto connect? Are you use encryption on the network? Have you tried manually connecting?

Yeah it hooks using auto connect.  Now, it is an the Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N for for Inspiron.

The router is a 2Wire with modem and the other wireless pc's have no problems. This new notebook finds the network and connects.  But it seems that when the pc or the wireless connection is not in use, it loses the connection to the router and internet and times out.  Re-boot fixes the problem. I think its a time out issue, but not sure how to fix.

Try setting the Power Management settings on the wireless network adapter to always supply full power.   You should be able to do this through the Intel wireless manager.

thanks for the replies. I changed that wireless card to full power earlier in the week, but it changed nothing.  Computer is one week old, this problem has been there from the start.  Tech support has been great. They checked my router setting last night, changed the router channel, saw nothing else unusual. made a few changes in the registry.  same results for this morning...no connection.  The other computers on our home network stay connected.  this one doesn't.  i'm now thinking its the wireless card.

Please clarify which version of Windows you are running and exactly which model wireless network adapter you have.

Is the network adapter the same as the 4965AGN wireless adapter?

If so, then try the latest drivers from Intel

The way I got to those drivers is by going intitially to the Intel web site, searching for Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N  which brought up a Page describing the device, where it clearly said "Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N".  I then clicked on the link to Support which eventually got me to the drivers download page.  I recall as I went through the links, that "Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N appeared on every page until I got to the actual download page where "Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N " is nowhere to be seen.  So, on that basis, I am assuming that those are the drivers for your "Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N " card.  I asked the question hoping that you would have something on your system that told you that it is the same as the 4965AGN.

If you go into Device Manager and expand the listing for Network Adapters, what does it say there?

problem solved. dell has the latest drivers, newer than the intel downloads. tech updated driver but that didn't help. in fact made things worse. network showed the pc was wirelessly connected, but had no email or web connectivity.

so here's the fix.  go into the hardware, open the Advanced tab.  Change the card Property from 802.11n Channel Width to Wireless Mode.  Set the Value to match the router.

This change immediately hooked refreshed the internet web page.  Computer went into sleep mode, and this morning when I woke it up, it hooked into the router.

Volc, thanks for your help.  Please post this to help others.

lost connection problem solved. blame it on the microsoft power mgmt. volcano was on the right path but its more than just unchecking the power savings button for the wireless card in the device mgr as he suggested.  change the power settings to minimal in the control panel for everything, except maybe the display.  turn sleep and hibernate to never.
