Inspiron Network port PROBLEM

So i just got my inspiron from a friend and the Network port doesnt seem to work when I plug in my DSL cord, or any other source of internet... On my other laptops the network port would light up when I would plug the cable into it but this one does nothing.. I was curious if their is a setting i can change or if i need to buy a new motherboard..Im running a Inspiron 4000 btw. heres a pic of the network port. http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o22/PopwarForLife/11-27-07_1739.jpg

It is either a (1)  a bad cable, (2) a bad network port, (3) a bad network adapter, or (4) the device on the other end (dsl modem) is bad or (5) not powered on.  I assume you have already eliminated 4 and 5 by testing it with a different computer.   Testing for (1) should be obvious.  Try wiggling the connector in the port and see if you can get the link light to light up.  If you can, then it is probably a bad port which can probably fixed at a computer repair facility.  If the problem is (3), you probably need a new motherboard.

did you look in the Bios to make sure the internal nic is enabled?

How would I check the BIOS to see if it is enabled?

as soon as the Dell Splash screen shows up press the key...use the cursor keys to navigate the bios screens and you will find the option to enable/disable the internal NIC

All the options I see are, Internal HDD, Modular Bay HDD, Cardbus NIC, APR NIC, and Mini-PCI NIC

The mini-PCI card would be the internal NIC....
Also look in device manager to see if the card is listed there and not yellow or red x'd
