Inspiron networking problem
Recently my inspiron 8500 ethernet adapter stopped working; the error message indicated limited or no connectivity. I checked the forum for clues and considered a bad plug or nic. The connection status showed a physical address, device ip, and subnet mask though no dns address. From the traffic indicators, I see packets sent but not received. Running ipconfig listed only zeroes for the different ports. The steps I took to resolve the problem include: uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for the connection, and running Systemsuite to clean the registry and diagnose the nic. One additional step was to use a pci ethernet card. During installation the wizard could not find a file for the driver. This resulted in the same connection problem as with the original nic. I suspect a dll or other OS file is broken and that the problem is software. Can anyone offer suggestions? I can provide more details on the system as requested. Derek
