Installing a Certificate

I am installing a certificate from my Company for home use to their server, I have installed VPN Client, and downloaded the certificate, when I got to install I get the error message that says to contact software manufacture, I believe Internet Explorer needs to be configured to allow this certificate installation.

Internet Explorer>Tools>Internet Options>Content Tab>Certificate Button

Import Button>Browse to File Location.  IE will know where to install the Cert.

Even if you open the downloaded certificate, you should see an option to install the cert.  The file should be in a .cer format.

Thanks, but I have downloaded the Certificate, I get the screen that says "here is the certificate you requested", when I follow your instructions I see the certificate in the IE contect, but when I click install I get the error message that I cannot install.

Thanks for the info, what I have is a VPN Client, which I take is the vendor that I will connect to my companies server, I install that with no problem. Then I go to my companies website, and download a certificate all goes well, the the screen is a box which is the certificate, next to it the words "cerfificate you requested" with highlighted blue word underneath, "install", when I click on install the error message "0x80090016 unable to install", once I get that I cannot go to the next steps of move certificate to Cisco store, then configure my connect through VPN client. Someone at work told me that they had to configure something in Internet Explorer to allow the install. Thank You for your time.

Did you solve the problem?  If Yes, please let me know how.  I have the same problem when installing RSA cert.  Error: 0x80090016.
Thanks.

No Luck mate.. i tried just about everything.. ill keep you posted with my luck!
alternative: reinstall windows. but it works only for 90 days (depending on the expiry date of the certificate). or lengthen the expiry date time frame.

would u by any chance think that the problem with be with scheduled tasks? since this problem arises only after 90 days, im suspecting that the scheduler is failing.

Thank you for replying.
I have tried averything (reinstalling W-XP from scratch etc. etc.) but without any luck.  One of the RSA Certs installs but is not working.  I managed to have the other certs installed using Firefox as browser.

I have tested Scheduler and that works without error messages.

You may try to add a new user (with adm. rights) and try to install the certs. using the new user profile.

Keep doing things differently.....
