Installing Cox Cable: No network adapter?
I just bought all the materials and the self-install kit for Cox cable internet. After connecting my modem to the ethernet port on my Dell Dimension 4600, I run the install CD and it says that I do not have a network adapter. I can't believe this. The computer came with the Intel PRO/100 VE network adapter and it still says I have no network adapter.
I try running the install cd without the modem connected to the PC and I still get the mesage of no network adapter. I install the newest driver for the network and I still get the message. What is happening.... do I need to go out and buy another network card, because the one that Dell gave me just plain isn't reliable?
Thanks.

Forget the software. Everything should work with Windows default settings. Turn of the cable modem and the computer. Connect the modem to the computer using the ethernet cable. Turn on the modem first and give it about 5 minutes to synchronize with the network. Then turn on the computer and try the internet connection using Internet Explorer. If it doesn't work, post back here.
If you really want it to work with the software, you will have to call Cox, but I use Cox and have never installed their software and everything works just fine for me. The only reason you would need to install software is if you were connecting through a USB port.

Thank you so much. I just overlooked the section in the book where it tells you how to configure the TCP/IP without using the CD.
Thanks for the quick reply...
