Can you not open the Dell article explaining how to use the Web Configuration tool, or can you not open http://192.168.2.1 ? What problem are you experiencing?
Don't worry about the CD software, especially if your connection to the Internet is working. The CD software is not always able to find the 2300 on a working network! Can you reach the TM 2300's Web interface at http://192.168.2.1? Instructions for the Web interface are in the section of the TM 2300 manual entitledÂ
"Web-based Configuration Tool".
Since your connection to the Internet is working, you've unfortunately encountered bugs in the Dell "Control Utility". The good news is that you don't need to install any software off the Dell Truemobile CD to configure the TM 2300.
(I edited my post shortly after you read it - sorry!)
Can you post the output of
ipconfig /all? You can do that by opening a "cmd.exe" window (Start/Run cmd.exe), and then typing the command
ipconfig /all. Then right-click, and select all the output, and press Enter. Then paste the result into a reply.
Am I right that everything's working OK, except you can't reach the router's Web interface?
I have another question too that you may be able to answer. I'm trying to play a DVD, and the screen is saying to lower the screen resolution or the color depth. I lowered the resolution, and it still gives me that error. What should I do? What is the color depth?
The "color depth" is available under the "Display Properties/Settings" menu, available if you right-click on the desktop. I'm using WinDVD, which shipped with my laptop, and I've not seen that problem. You might want to post that question to the Inspiron/Video board if reducing the color depth doesn't correct the problem. You should specify which DVD player you're using when you post there.
Okay... I reached the page but it says to enter a username and password. What do I put into there?

In that case, someone has changed the default password for your router as well as its default IP address. Did you obtain the router directly from Dell, or from somewhere else?
At this point, you have two choices - leave things alone, or reset the router to its default settings. If you want to reset the router to its defaults, that's described
here.
It's worrisome that the IP address of the router was changed from its default, and the router password was changed from it's default value. How'd those things happen?
Thanks! Oddly, the router's at http://192.168.1.2 rather than its default IP address of 192.168.2.1. That's based on the fact that the IP address of the DHCP server and default gateway are both 192.168.1.2.
I wonder why? In any case, if you can reach the router at http://192.168.1.2 that should confirm that all is well.
It sounds like you have a wireless router from Zyxel, and not a Dell Truemobile 2300. I'll admit to being as confused as you are at this point! Zyxel most assuredly makes wireless routers. If that's what you have, you should be able to download the router manual fromÂ
Zyxel's support Web site.
The thing is... I do have a Dell Trumobile 2300. It came with my computer. I bought the ZyXEL thing when I got DSL. I had everything hooked up. Two computers, the ZyXEL and the TruMobile. Everything worked well. The wireless internet worked wonderfully. It's just when i reinstalled windows i had to redo everything, and the internet is working fine. i just can't get the trumobile router to be found so i can't use the wireless internet now.
they're not all connected now. it won't work.. .that's the problem :)
i had it connected before and it all worked... it was connected like this: the ethernet cable that came with the trumobile went from the trumobile ( 1 of the 4 LAN ports) into my desktop. another ethernet cable ran from the internet port in the trumobile to the ZyXel. the USB chord went from the ZyXel to my desktop. and nothing was in my laptop cuz it ran wirelessly.
when i have the trumobile disk in and i get to the step of plugging the ethernet cable into the internet port of the trumobile and plugging the ethernet cable that came with the trubmobile into my laptop and the laptop locating the router... that's when i get a problem. the router can't be found

According to the TM2300 manual section on the Web-Based Configuration Tool, the default user name and password are both "admin". But if everything's working, you shouldn't need to make any changes there.

That would certainly explain the discrepancies!
