Integrated broadcom reinstallation problem...

I recently went through bluescreen heck and had to have my computer fixed (because Dell was no help to me) by a friend's dad.  He had to reinstall Windows, which left me having to reinstall all my drivers/programs.  It worked fine with everything except my Broadcom 57xx Gigabit Integrated Controller.  I downloaded the drivers from the Dell website (thankfully I had my wireless network card working) because Dell gave me no CD with the drivers on it.  However, Windows does now link the Ethernet Controller with the drivers when I use the add new hardware wizard.  Any suggestions?

After a reinstallation of Windows, you must load the chipset drivers before attempting to load any other devices.  If the chipset drivers are not loaded first, Windows will not be able to recognize or install drivers for many other devices.

Different users have reported different results.  Sometimes it works if you first unsintall any drivers that were installed before the chipset drivers, then install the chipset drivers followed by reinstalling all other drivers.   Other times, the only way to get everything to work is to reformat, reinstall Windows, then install the drives in the proper order.

Thanks for the post!  So from here what should I do?  Do I have to uninstall all my drivers then install my intel chipset driver followed by the rest of them?  Or since I already have it installed before the broadcom one, shouldn't it work?

Well that stinks...so by reformat do you mean my harddrive as well?  And if I try your first suggestion, do I do that by going in device manager and unistalling every one of those drivers?  Dell never gave me a driver CD, so I don't know how I would install most of them back on again.

I agree that Dell should have supplied the drivers CD and if you didn't get it when you ordered your computer, you should have demanded it.  You may still be able to get it from Dell Tech Support, but you will have to call or email them.  Still, all drivers can be downloaded from the Dell Support web site and they will likely be more up to date than the drivers on the CD.   Note that this is a user to user forum, so it won't do you any good to get upset with the users on this forum who are trying to help you.

Yes, you should remove all devices in Device Manager for which you installed drivers before installing the chipset drivers.  If that doesn't work, then yes, you will have to reformat the hard drive, reinstall Windows then install the drivers in the proper order- chipset drivers first.

Oh I wasn't getting mad I was just saying that I didn't know how I was going to get all the drivers once reformatting without a cd and with no internet access.  Hopefully I can figure something out.  Thanks for your help!!
