Intel 5300 AGN Wireless Connection Intermittent
Hello,
I'm having a strange problem with my Precision M4400 running Win 7 64 bit, 5300 AGN wireless adapter and a Linksys WRT160N router. When connected to the wireless network, the connection will work fine for a while (minutes to hours), then all of a sudden I get intermittent throughput. I'll get data for about 2 seconds, then no data for about 10 seconds, and this repeats indefinitely. The only way to stop this from continuing is to put the computer to sleep, then wake it up again (or restart). Once this is done, the connection returns to full speed again for a while. I also tried turning wireless on and off using the wireless switch, but this does not resolve the problem.
The connection does not drop. It is still connected to the router, just that no data is getting through for 80% of the time. It does not seem to be a router problem since other computers on the wireless network do not have this problem.
This is very intermittent and hard to reproduce consistently. This seem to happen more often when the computer goes into standby or sleep when not used, but manually putting the computer into sleep mode does not reproduce the problem (just resolves it). This also happens more often when I'm connected both with wired and wireless connection (wired connection to my work's network, and wireless to the internet).
Does anybody else have a similar problem? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

See if your 5300 may need a driver update -- check it in Windows Device Manager - accessed from the Control Panel
I'm sure you have checked to see if it may be an interference/blockage problem by moving the router/PC/adaptor antennae a little if possible
Check/compare the wireless config. settings in the 4400's adapter to be sure they match the settings in the router -- or maybe even delete/disable the wireless connection and reconfig. another
Your router may need checked to see if the firmware version is the most recent -- but if the other PC's are connecting OK - that probably is not the problem and may cause issues with the other PC's by flashing a new firmware version
Possibly (but not likely) the 5300 adpt'r is intermittantly going bad - if you have an extra USB wireless adpt'r - as a last resort you may want to test this possibly
