Intel modem not TAPI-compliant?
Hi there,
I've got a Dimension 2400 with a Intel 537EP V9x PCI Modem. I've tried installing some Answerphone software, but whatever I install, either doesn't have specific serial drivers for this modem (ie. they only have the standard 3COM / USR / etc., ones), or says that the modem doesn't support TAPI communication.
However, looking at the modem info in various system panels shows that it supports TAPI. I've tried upgrading the drivers, but those loaded are more 'suitable' than the XP drivers from Intel's website.
Has anyone succeeded in getting this modem to work as a voicemail / answerphone device? MOH alone doesn't really cut it!

Damian,
Do you have an "Intel(R) 537EP V9x DF PCI Modem"? This this modem is a data/fax only modem. The "Intel(R) 537EP V9x DFV PCI Modem" is a full telephony modem (note the "V" in "DFV") and appear as a Voice modem to TAPI.

Hey Mark,
Yes, it's a DF, rather than a DFV. It seemed that even so, it was able to provide some kind of voice handling, but from what you've just shown, it seems it's not supposed to, and the easiest solution is to give up and buy a compatible modem.
Thanks for the help,
Damian
