Intel PROSet/wireless 2200BG network connection device driver installation

I am trying to install drivers for an  Intel PROSet/wireless 2200BG network connection device.

Using the hardware update wizard, it says that there is a problem installing this hardware, an error occurred during the installation of this device.  The system cannon find the file specified.  I download and installed what I think are the original drivers from Dell.  The zip file is on the desktop and the drivers are in dell/drivers/r138749.

For a while, I lost all drivers for this device, then I installed the drivers in safe mode and that allowed me to reconnect with a wireless connection, but not the correct one, despite downloading and running the R138749 self-extracting file from Dell.  I have also used "add/remove programs" to try uninstall/install these drivers.

What follows is an error message:

Intel PROSet/wireless 2200BG network connection device driver version 9.0.0.61 does not support Intel PROSet/Wireless Software version 10.5.1.0

Please update the driver to one of the following versions

9.0.4.x, 9.0.3.x, 9.0.2.x

When I use the Device Driver Installation Wizard, it says:

Intel (netw3x32)net 10.5.1.75 is ready to use, but just below it
Intel (w29n51) net 9.0.4.27 failed to install.

So at this point, I am using the incorrect device driver version.  Anyone have any advice?

Go to Add/Remove Programs and remove all of the Intel ProSet software.  Then, run the downloaded file to install the drivers.  You do not need to deal at all with the Driver Installation Wizard.
