Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Auto connect setting not working

I have verified that I am set to auto connect however my wireless does not do so upon start.  I have to do so manually each time I use my computer.  This is a new problem since installing the newest driver update because I could not connect at all or randomly.  The update fixed the connection problem and I no longer have dropped connections and wifi connection back to normal.  HOWEVER it has left my auto connect unfunctional.

Can anyone help me with this?  I am happy to be able to get on the web but would like to be able not to do so many key strokes to get there.

TrishTeck,

Please run the Finding System Information Tool and post the information back here so we can tell you the procedure for your system.

Dear Rick,

the same problem applies to me as a Windows XP user. Could you please help me as well?

(I tried to write to your technical support as well, but it would just say " We are sorry that we could not locate your contract data now, Please try again later. ")

Thank you very much,

mnkysn

mnkysn,

Can you run an ipconfig /all log and post it back here?

What virus program and firewall are you using?

mnkysn,

Sorry for the delay, work. I do not work for Dell, so I know nothing about their technical support.

I guess I should have asked the make and model of your computer. I would like to suggest the German drivers from Dell's Drivers & Downloads

Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)

Click on network adapter, double click on Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection, click on advanced.

Change the settings for the following

Power Management = highest

Roaming Aggressiveness = Highest

Transmit Power = Highest

Wireless mode = G mode only

Did you try allowing Windows to manage your connection? How can I disable wireless configuration services and enable the Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration services

On an XP Operating system, if the computer goes to sleep or hibernates, the wireless adapter does not always come back on. Pressing F2, or Fn and F2 bring up the adapter so it can be disabled, then enable it. I disabled sleep and hibernate on the last XP system in our home.

Dear Rick,

thank you very much for your help (which Dell itself does not want to provide). I tried everything you suggested, but with no results regarding my initial problem. The former driver keeps interrupting my WLAN and not remembering access data. The new driver provided by Intel could not be installed properly and slows down the connection massively. An alternative driver from Dell's driver section I cannot find.

My computer is a Dell Latitude D820, a little slow by itself but working properly otherwise. I tried all the preference settings you were stating and used the Windows fix you were proposing. F2 wouldn't lead to a result, neither would Fn and F2. I think, sleep mode isn't a problem since the connection is lame right from the start. No ideas left, so maybe a new notebook as a last instance. No Dell, that's for sure!

Best regards!
