Intermittent limited or no connectivity
My Dimension 8400, WinXP, wirelessly connects to the internet via a Thomson Speedtouch wireless adaptor 121g usb adaptor.
When I first start the computer I cannot connect to the internet unless I right click the wireless connection icon at the bottom right hand side of the screen and click repair.
Sometimes this will then connect correctly but lately the computer just freezes and I have to reboot via the button on the front of the box, then on reboot it sometimes connects.
I have tried the winsockxp fix but the problem persists.
I would be grateful for any suggestions please.

Which make and model wireless router do you have? When it can't connect, does power cycling the router result in an immediate connection? Do you have any security features enabled on the router?

The router is a Thomson ST585 v6 and is encrypted. When this problem occurs I have not touched the router as the downstairs computer, connected to the router by ethernet cable, is working alright.

As a troubleshooting, try temporarily disabling the encryption and see if the problem goes away. I know this is not a solution, but it is necessary to eliminate possible reasons for the problem.

I was unable to find the encryption disable but on main comp downstairs in control panel, wireless link, hardware, it showed 4 serial cables and only one working so switched it to that. Turned upstairs comp off for 5 minutes and restarted with success !!
Will try shutting down later and see if it starts ok.
Thanks for your help.

I have started the computer this morning but the problem remains the same and I have to repair the connection before I gain access to the intenet.
Any ideas please ?

It is difficult to help when you seem to not want to take the troubleshooiting steps suggested. I have asked that you shut down the router and restart it when the problem occurs to see if that regains the connection. Have you done this? I have asked that you temporarily disable encryption on the router and see if that solves the problem, but you still haven't done this. I can't suggeste anything further until you start working with me on the problem.
