intermittent wireless connection
Hi
I am using a Dell TrueMobile 1300 WLAN Mini-PCI card, but I often cannot connect to the wireless network after booting up the computer. The wireless network uses 802.11b and 802.11g, and is inside a university residence. Signal strenght is shown as excellent in the tray icon after booting up, but I am unable to load a webpage or ping another computer.
Then, I run the diagnostics tests that come with the utility for the wireless card (Accessible by right-clicking the tray icon with the bars --> open utility --> diagnostics tab --> run), which temporarily interrupt the connection. Signal strength drops to zero during the tests, but all the tests pass, and afterwards, signal strength returns to excellent. However, after running these tests, the connection works fine, and I am able to load web pages, connect to MSN etc.
If anyone has ideas on why this might be happening, I'd appreciate your advice. I have been using this wireless network for months with no problems until last week, and all the network settings are correct (DNS number, MAC adress). Thanks.

Your're exactly right. That is how the network is setup (using static IP's, MAC filtering, and no DHCP)... Unfortuneately, this still doesn't help me. Any idea how I can get around having to run the diagnostics before I can connect to the Access Point? It used to work fine and now it doesn't.
Today, I was able to connect after running the diagnostics, as usual, but the connection was extremely slow. It took about 2 minutes, and multiple refreshes, to load
