Internet access

Apologies but brand new to this forum and internet but having a problem with my dimension 9150 on XP. Tried to access internet 3 days ago and now just getting message cannot display that page. Tried different pages same result. Can get access to MSN messenger however, when trying to navigate away to see emails get that answer again. Tried through Microsoft to solve problem by turning phishing off no luck and restored back to time 2 months age but still no access. Pinging whilst online works but no web pages. Any body any ideas before daughter drives me wild!

I had same problem. Might try open network connections then right clik on local area connection select properties then on the general tab scroll to "internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" then select properties and click use the following server address .   If you have made it this far you will need to know both preferred and alternate DNS #s to enter.  you might also have to manually input the IP address one time then try the internet, if it doesn't work then go back and select "obtain an IP address automatically"   I had to install a router and spent over 6 hrs with this exact problem.  Good luck.

I am working on an E521 and cannot connect to the internet via modem or router.  Tried the following:

Another known working NIC

Reinstalling chipset driver

Reinstalling NIC driver

Uninstalling IE 7

Setting connection properties to auto-detection

None of these worked.  I'm thinking I'll have to perform a fresh reinstall of everything to clear this up.  MSN messenger does "sometimes" log in but IE/Firefox both do not work and I cannot ping any site sucessfully.

  2. go to security tab

    a. make sure internet, local, trusted, and restricted are set to default

  3. go to start, then show all conections

     a. right click on LAC\ local area con.

     b.click properties

     c. scroll down to tcp\ip click on it

     d. click properties

     e. click advanced at bottom not to adv. tab

     f. then click options tab

     g. high light Tcp\ip filtering

     h. click properties

     i. make sure enable Tcp\ip is checked, and also permit is checked on all 3 protocols

Ok this could be that all 3 things need to be done or just 1 or 2 need to be done. but only do 1 at a time then check to see if it works before you do next step!
