Try downloading and running winsockfix for Windows XP from the Here.  If that doesn't solve the problem, to futher troubleshoot this problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

I can't get an internet connection to download the XP fix.

I tried the config and got this message:

An internal error occurred:  The request is not supported.
Contact Microsoft Product Support Services
Additional Info:  Unable to query host name.

Let me make this as simple as possible.  On the computer on which you are reading these messages, download the file that I pointed you to.  Once it is downloaded, copy it to a CD-R or flash drive.  Remove the CD-R or flash drive, walk it to the computer that does not have an internet connection, copy the file form the CD-R or flash drive to the that computer, then run the file on that computer.

I tried all of this very carefully and it ran the fix but it didn't take care of the problem.  Any other suggestions?   The internet still says connected but won't  connect.
