internet browsing issues

Question

My laptop is unable to open links while on the internet. I am able to get to most pages, but if I attempt to connect to a link it doesn't work. I also cannot login to any sites. I am experiencing the same problem with both IE and mozilla. With mozilla it says that 'the connection is refused when attempting to connect to' whatever site I am trying to use. I am connecting wirelessly through a router. I am connected to the internet and I have 2 other PC's connected through the same router with no problems. I would like to avoid reinstalling windows if possible, but it is getting near that point. Any help would be appreciated.

From a DOS prompt, type ipconfig /all. Compare the results with the same command on the systems which work. Sounds like a DNS issue. The system which is experiencing problems may not have the DNS servers configured properly -- or it may be a problem with the gateway address.

Do you have a firewall operating on the laptop? A firewall could be blocking access.

No I disabled it.
