Download and install your Chip Set and Ethernet Drivers to eastblish your connection.  The 1394 connection you see is your Fire Wire card.

I did a XP re-install due to a drive failure and am having the same problem.

My Intel 10-100 network card driver (from the Dell supplied disc) is not being able to load correctly and I can not connect to my DSL.

I think my option is to just go buy a new NIC and driver and install it.

Did you read the above post?  Install your drivers in this order:  Chip Set, Video, Audio, and Network.  None of them are going to work without the Chip Set drivers installed.

Yes, I read the post, and I installed the chip set driver.

Are you saying they have to be installed in that exact order to work?

The chip set must be first, the other can come in any order.

Hey JM did as you said and I still couldn't get the driver's to load right.

Went out and bought a Netgear Ethernet card for $20.00  at Staples and it worked perfect.  Then my power supply failed (along with my hard drive last week) and it looks like "dude, you're getting a new Dell"

I'm not surprised the unit failed, even though my 8250 is only 3 yrs old, I used it a lot more than my TV.  Thank God for my back-up Inspiron 9300 or I wouldn't have access to the Web.
