internet connection problem

i have a dell dimension as well as an inspiron b130 that i have connected to a wireless network. tonight i went to use the desktop and the connection is really slow. called the cable company and the guy had me unplug the router completely and just plug the modem into the back of the computer....didn't help. we are having some cable tv problems in the house as well and someone is coming out to look at that friday...the guy told me they could be related problems and to call if it isn't working right after the tv thing is fixed.

anyway i figured ok the problem is with my cabhle modem so my laptop should still work ok. in the systra icon the network connection info says the signal strength is excellent, everything looks as it should...but the connection on there is slow as well. could that also be due to the cable problems even though i'm on a wireless network? hope it's not a problem w/ that ir w/ the laptop.

any insight would be appreciated. thanks

jay

Doesn't your wireless network go through the cable modem as well?  If it doesn't, then you don't have it set up right or you are using someone elses wireless network.  If it is connected to router that is connected to the cable modem, then isn't the answer obvious?

yes the router and the cable modem are linked together. i talked to someone i know online who works in cable, she said that as long as the cable modem connection is messed up then the wireless network will be a bit out of wack also and that since the cable tv and cable internet run off the same line thats where my problem is...and thats why the wireless network isn't working up to speed
