Internet connection problems
I recently purchased a dell 4600 desktop and dell 1100 laptop. I also obtained a broadband connection via charter. I installed a network with a truemobil 2300 router, and a truemobile 1150 wireless card for the laptop. The desktop is wired to the router. There also is a 3rd gateway laptop in the house that also uses a wireless card to connect to this network.
The network worked fine for the first 2 days, and then suddently couldn't connect to the internet. I couldn't find the problem, gave up,and went back to ground zero, following the charter install directions followed by the dell install directions for the router, followed by the istall directions for the wireless cards, and the network worked fine again for about 2 weeks.
Today the network isn't working at all again. It was working last night but not this morning. The computer stayed on but not on line during that period.Charter claims there is no problem on their end, When I use the truemobile 2300 control utility diagnositcs, they appear to recognize all the othr computers on my network. So, for example, if I turn the 1100 laptop on, the control utility adds it to th list of computers on the network.
I suspect some problem in the communication between the router and the modem. Any ideas on what it is and how to fix it without reinstalling everything? Any ideas how to prevent whatever it is from occurring again?
Thank you in advance for any advice.

Have you tried resetting everything. To do this, turn off all computers, the router, and the braodband modem. Let the modem sit for about 5 minutes, then power up the modem. Give it about 5 minutes to resynchronize with the network, then turn on the router. Let the router sit for abut 2 minutes to that it can synchronize with the modem. Then power up the computers and see if the network connection is restored.

Hi,
This is a common problem when we use a router and a cable connection.
This is what we need to do
1) Shut down all the computers
2) Turn off the router.
3) Tun off the cable modem and wait for 2 minutes.
After this
1) turn on the cable modem and wait till the lights on the cable modem are steady.
2) Turn the router back on
3) Turn on the computers back on you should be able to get on the internet without any problems.

Thank you both for your advice. The solution worked, and the internet is working once again from my computer.
I have a couple of questions:
(1) What exactly caused th is problem?
(2) Is there any way to minimize it happenning again?
Thanks again.

Hi bartik,
(1) What exactly caused this problem?
That you can only check when you have the next time trouble.
By the next pls turn off/on only the router. When it´s works after you knows the router is the problem. Than check the website for a firmware upgrade.
If it´s not the router pls call your isp to change the modem.
(2) Is there any way to minimize it happenning again?
Firmware upgrade and/or change the modem.
good luck
