Internet connection

I had to reinstall Windows XP on one of my desktops and now I can't connect to the internet to download the drivers.

Thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly.  I did download the drivers to this computer, but when  I tried to copy them to disk, I keep getting an error message that says some files could not be copied.   I answered 'go ahead anyway".  The file looks like it copied to the disk, but when I put it in the problem computer, it  says windows cannot read, disk may be corrupted. I tried copying to another disk, but get the same issues.

Rick,

I just noticed the link at the bottom of your reply to order backup disk.  I sent a request to Dell.  I've been at this for almost 3 hours.  Do you think it would be easier to wait for the disk?

Thanks,

Linda

lindam0958,

There should have been a drivers disk that came with your computer or follow the instructions below and download the drivers to another computer and then put them on a disk and install them in the proper order.

How to Install Drivers in Microsoft® Windows® on Dell Systems

Since the operating system was re-installed did you remember to go to drivers and downloads, enter your service tag(DO NOT POST SERVICE TAG here or your post will get deleted, since it contains your personal information), and install these drivers in this order.

Desktop System Software or Notebook System Software
Chipset or SMBus driver
Processor Driver (if applicable)
Video
Audio (sound)
Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse)
Modem
Network Card

QuickSet(Laptop only)

Linda,

I forgot to mention, if using any type of download accelerators, please turn them off as they tend to corrupt files that are being downloaded.

Linda,

You will need to burn them to a disk, but only if you have a cd or dvd burner. You should look in Start, all programs, Look for a program called Roxio. If found click on home and then click you want to burn a data file. You'l add the files, then you'll need to put a CDR disk in the burner to burn them to.

If you do not have a burner, then you'll need to purchase a flash drive(Office Max, Staples, Walmart, etc...) and transfer the files to that.

Ok,  I disabled Norton and recopied the disk and it worked.  Thanks.   I put the disk in the Dell Dimension 8300, it unzipped or unflashed or something like that and said the computer had to be shut off.  It's off and back on, so I have no idea what to do now.

Reinstallation. I put in the Operation System reinstallation CD and let it do it's thing.  Sorry, I know just enough to be dangerous.

I've never forumed or blogged before. Is there a chat option?  I had trouble finding you after I closed out for copying.

Linda,

Read this article and see if you can use the factory image to restore the computer. Everything will be in the image.
