INTERNET CONNECTION
While trying to run a full diagnostic on my Dell XPS 8300 I keep getting the warning "There was a problem with your internet connection. Please try running the diagnostic again." However, I have a solid internet connection. What is causing this warning?

Hi jkaras7,
Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.
The driver needs to be updated. You can download the Broadcom BCM57788 Ethernet Controller Driver and then uninstall the Ethernet driver, restart the system and install Ethernet Driver on your system.
Do reply to this community thread so that if there are any more queries we will be glad to assist you.
Have a great day ahead.

Hi,
I own a Dell XPS 12 running Windows 10.
I have the same problem accessing Dell Diagnostics.
Is the problem definitely the driver? I have been searching for it on my computer and I have been unable to find it.
Thank you
Rob

Hi,
It is an XPS12 9Q33
I have had the same problem with Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox.
And I had the same problem with Windows 8.1 before I upgraded to Windows 10.
I've attached a screenshot as requested.
Many thanks
Rob

Just wanted to confirm if the internet connection works fine on the system other than installing the Dell system detect. If the internet connection is working fine, would request you to disable your firewall or check its settings and then install the Dell system detect. Enable the firewall after you have installed the Dell system detect.

Yes - the internet is working fine apart from this and I have already tried disabling my McAfee firewall without luck.

Please can you explain what you mean by "create a new administrator user account"?

Hi I'm having a problem as well with my network card. I recently updated to windows 10 and now The WLan Autoconfig keeps stopping. I can only assume that the network card requires new drivers. Does this driver work with Dell Wireless 1703 802b/g/n? Do you know where I can get the one that works with the recent Windows 10 update... the dell one I got from the support works prior.

robclow,
Windows 10
Hit the Windows key and the x keys at the same time, control panel, user accounts.
Manage another account
Add a new user in PC settings
Make sure the user account has Administrator privileges.

Thanks Rick.
I've done this but I'm getting the same problem and the same error message with the different user identity.
This does seem like an issue that other people have experienced as well.
I'm guessing that somehow McAfee or Windows are blocking Dell System Detect, but having disabled the firewall without success I am not sure what to do next.

robclow,
I do not have Dell System Detect installed on my system.
I replied a I'm not sure if the Dell Employee was following the thread, anymore.
Let's try a different approach. Give me some details on what is happening.
Places to look to see if your Connection is enabled
Hit the Windows key and the x keys at the same time, Command Prompt (Admin), type
netsh winsock reset catalog
This will reset the Winsock catalog, then restart your computer.
Can you also run Network Interface and/or and ipconfig /all log on the problem system and post the information back here.

Hi Rick,
Thanks for replying.
My problem is not with my internet or wireless connection - which has consistently worked fine.
My problem is with Dell System Detect - which consistently refuses to acknowledge that the internet connection is working fine.
My underlying problem is with my in-built microphone, which is not picking up any sound. I have tried going into diagnostics after set up, but Dell can't see the problem. I've gone through Windows 10 devices and drivers; changed and updated drivers... No luck.
I've pretty much resigned myself to living without a microphone, but I was hoping that Dell System Detect would help me narrow down the problem.
I understand that this may not fall within your area.
Thanks
