Internet Drops Repeatedly

I just got an E1505, with the Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG Network Card a week or two ago, and the other day it started dropping the internet connection every couple of minutes, even though i do not lose the connection to the wireless network. Of all the comptuers, this is the only one to do it. My other laptop, with a wireless card doesn't do it either. It's really frustrating.

I did download new drivers last night, and i have a Netgear wireless router.

Thanks!

You say you downloaded drivers, but you don't say whether or not you installed them.   Did you get the latest drivers from the Intel web site or from the Dell web site?  If from Dell, try the Intel drivers, as they will be more up to date.   Do you have any 2.4 Ghz wireless phones in the vicinity of the computer?  If so, try changing the channel that the router use to one of the extreme channels, 1 or 11, to minimize the interference from the othe 2.4 Ghz devices.

I did install the drivers. I got them from dell, but I took your advice and checked Intel. They were the same drivers.

I do not have a 2.4Ghz phone near the computer or the hub.

Any other ideas? Its driving me crazy.

Open the Intel Wireless utility (I think it is called Proset, but I don't have it on any of my computers because I had read the forums regularly before my recent laptop purchases and avoided all Intel wireless cards).  In the utility, see if you can find the power management settings and make sure they are set to always provide full power.

The Netgear router is it an 802.11b or an 802.11g router. Have you tried changing channel and SSID on the router because this will resolve wireless issue as well.

It might be that the Intel Proset utility and WZC are conflicting with each other so try to disabling Intel Proset utility by opening Intel Proset utility and then click on Advance or Profiles menu then select Use Microsoft to manage wifi.

I set it to have windows manage the network, and it did it again.

I changed the channel on the card, and it still does it.

Any other ideas?

You can't change the channel on the card unless you're configuring Ad-HOC connection but you need to change it on the router. Try also this command by clicking Start -> Run  and type netsh winsock reset catalog and then restart computer. By the way before you install/run the latest driver make sure to remove the adapter in device manager and remove the driver in Add or Remove Programs then restart computer then install the driver.

I got as far as uninstalling and reinstalling the network card, and now the internet is not working at all, where as before, it worked intermittently.

I didnt understand what you were saying to do with the run comand. If it is possible, could you explain that more clearly please? Thanks.

Reconnect to the wireless network first then if you still can't obtain an IP address then click

Start -> Run  and then type this command in the Open dialog box netsh winsock reset catalog and then restart computer.
