*** Internet Explorer problem ***

I was looking around in the registry to try and rectify a problem which I was having with my IE 6 ( which kept over-riding my existing homepage and defaulting to www.dell.com ) but have accidentally changed something which is now preventing IE 6 from opening at all. I have tried downloading the new version of IE (IE 7 as it happens) from www.microsoft.com - this has been unsuccessful. I then tried to download IE 6 again but now the set-up wizard fails at the "Preparing Setup" installation box stage and has an error message which reads:

"Setup has detected a newer version of Internet Explorer already installed on the system.

Setup cannot continue."

I have tried to uninstall IE 6 and start from scratch but this has been far from successful and it appears I cannot remove IE 6 completely.

Any idea how best to progress please?

This is an issue with you preinstalled Firewall program from either Norton or Mcafee.  It detects this change as spyware and is blocking it.

Go thur the configuration and allow for this change to be made.  I hope you made a copy of the Registry before you began.
