Internet Explorer toggles back and forth between open screens, Any idea why?

Hello, I have an Inspiron E1505 and am currently using Internet Explorer 7.0.  Has anybody experienced the browser toggling between open screens for no reason?  I could be working on writing an email and the screen switches suddenly back to the previous screen.  This is very annoying!  Any ideas on how to stop this?
