Did you read the message in red text at the top of this forum.  It is always helpful if you would provide basic information about your system.  Which model computer, which version of Windows, Which version of Internet Explorer, how are are connecting to the internet (cable, dsl, dialup) etc.  If you connect by cable or dsl, are you connecting through a router or directly to the broadband modem?  If through a router, are you connecting by wired etherent or wireless?

Are you sure you are actually connected to the internet or this just an internet explorer problem?  Have you checked to make sure that any 3rd party firewalls are configured to allow access by internet explorer?

To help troubleshoot this problem, on the computer with the problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

Sorry, 1st time I ever used this. My computer, Dell  Dimension 4450, Windows XP Home ED., Internet Explorer 7, problem - Cannot display webpage.  Started after I downloaded IE 7. Yes I am connected to the internet through wired  etherent, it is working fine.  Everything else works fine. I can open a new tab and go where I want. , I cannot find any rea  son why it would not open. I tried restoring connections, from Internet tools. Firewall are working properly.  I think this is an explorer problem. Did I cover everything? Thanks for correcting me. Maybe now I can find a fix.

Is it just your home page that cannot load?  If so, it may just be a bad link or it could be that the page that loads as your normal home page is down.   Have you tried using a different home page.

No its not just the home page. I can be reading an email and close it, and then the whole shooting match shuts down. I then have to restart IE. If I have more than one window open doing something and I close it, it will shut down. Says something about Runtime error. I sometimes can just ignore it and finish what I am doing. It also happens when I am trying to send and email.

The problem does not appear to be your internet connection, rather something that is interfering with Internet Explorer.  Have you checked your system for viruses, spyware, and malware?   Does the same thing occur if you boot to Safe Mode with Network Support?  If not, then it does suggest that something running in the background from normal startup is causing the problem.

I have norton internet security. It has not found anything. How do I find out if I have a virus or something?

Norton is not very good at detecting and removing spyware and malware.  Download, install, update, and run the free versions of Ad-Aware and Spybot and let these programs remove all of the garbage that they find.

If these programs don't solve the problem, go to the HijackThis forum, read the message in red at the top of the forum and then follow the instructions to post a HijackThis log and a HijackThis expert can offer advice on how to fix the problem.

Thanks. I  already tried restoring. It didn't help. Now not only does the Internet Explorer shut down on me, my MSN  has started it too.
