internet goes on and off

Question

While on the internet using wireless the connection seems to go on and off, I don't get disconnected but when I try to type info such as passwords  all of the letters don't get entered it skips letters when the connection flashes from on to off. I bought a new external wireless card thinking it was the problem, it was not the problem, it must be internal. Can anyone suggest what I can do? Has anyone had a similiar problem. I have a Inspiron 1100. Thanks

Does the same thing occur if you connect by a wired ethernet connection? Steve

Thanks for your fast response. No I have not tried plugging directly to the internet, I will do this. Also when I disconnet from the internet while the on/off/ flashing problem is occuring it affects the normal operation of my computor and as soon as I unplug the wireless card the problem stops
