Internet hangs "website found waiting reply "
Normal 0
There is an issue with my laptop which it is suspected is a network card or card s/w problem. My dad raised an issue for me on Aumha, but they could not help. I wondered if anyone here had any ideas or indeed has had a similar problem. It was thought this was linked to going on specific sites (in particular Facebook was a suspect), but it has now happened on a number of different sites. This is the link to the issue raised should anyone want the details http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=41621
The laptop is a Dell Insprion 1545 laptop running Vista home premium sp1 with 3gb ram. Both IE and Firefox all of a sudden just hang (“website found waiting reply”). This happens sporadically and if you reboot you get access. It is connecting to broadband using the built in wireless card to a Netgear router (DG834GT ADSL {wireless} Router). This is a relatively new laptop – few months and my previous Dell accessed the same router without problem. I’ve had a look around on google and found a few posts on this model having trouble, but suspect that is coincidence or the type of people with such laptops (cheap for students …). My dad has hardwired it to the router and it also did the same after a while.
His first suspicion was a virus/hijack of some kind, but certainly Avast in safe mode has turned up nothing …. He has said he has dabbled with tracert and ping of sites whilst the problem was there and BBC and Google sites responed ok. I’ve disabled her firewall (Zonealarm) while the problem was there and still could not access the internet, but strange enough MSN continues to work ok.
While testing out the hardwire it left FF process running and it could not be killed in taskmanager or with taskkill
FF version is:-
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.13) Gecko/2009073022 Firefox/3.0.13 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
IE7 version is :-
file 7.0.6001.18294
Product 7.00.6000.16386
Windows updates are set to "Notify" , only SP2 and IE8 have NOT been installed, SP2 was only notified after I raised this issue on here and I did not think it a good idea to install yet. IE8 has been there for sometime hidden; until I hear it is stable it won't be loaded... Zonealarm is installed.

I am having the same problem. I have also done many things to eliminate if it is a software problem or hijacking to no avail. My internet access is very much like yours almost non existent at times. I even had Comcast come out here to check the signals and how it is setup in the notebook.
I have come to the conclusion that it is a defective or very cheap network card. Thank you for posting so I don't feel all alone. Dell has not been easy to work with. 2 techs told me it was the motherboard. Might make sense since the internet card is intergrated. Might be something else Dell needs to look at. I wonder how many others have the same problem.
