Internet not working through ethernet but works via wireless . . .
Please Help!
Shortly after an unusually loud thunderstorm, my internet connection stopped working. I left it for a while and on returning home 2 days later, I found that I can only connect via wireless. I called the ISP, went through the usual checks, even received a replacement router which made no difference. The ethernet light on the router just goes on and off every few seconds. Also, I installed Tune Up Utilities to ensure the registry is all clean, tried LSP-Fix which doesn't find any problems, and ensured a clean removal of McAfee.
I tried the ipconfig commands but they work fine while I am connected (should I be running these commands with the wireless disconnected?)
Are there any suggestions? How can I tell if I need to replace the network card? I don't really understand this Winsock business either.
I am using a Vostro 200 desktop running on a Vista Service Pack 1, and the network adapter is an Intel 82562V-2 10/100.

dp108,
The hint was Thunderstorm. Try turning off your ISP Modem/router and your wireless router for 30 seconds and then power them both back on. Also restart your computer and then try connecting.
What happens?

Thanks for the reply.
You mentioned the modem but I believe only the router is used for the ethernet connection and wireless connection. I have tried to switch off the router and PC and I still cannot connect via ethernet cable. I can only connect via the wireless adapter. I have also tested the laptop by connecting it to the router via the ethernet cable and that works fine.
Any other suggestions?
