Internet problem.
I have a dsl internet service. I connect to it and it clearly says at the bottom that I am connected. However, when I try to load a web page on internet explorer it wont show anything (page cannot be displayed). It says that I don't have a connection to the internet, when i really do. I operate under windows XP.
I phoned my internet service company and they got me to run "msconfig" and disable all startup programs and services that werent microsoft related (I checked the hide all microsoft services box). I then restarted my computer and the internet worked. They then told me that I was probably "firewalled" and I should scan for adware or spyware and remove it all. I did this and then afterwards they told me to run "msconfig" again and click normal startup, followed by a restart of the computer. Then my internet should be functional once again with my normal startup. Yet again the internet doesnt work.
I need some help to remove whatever I have to, so my web page browser actually works when I'm connected to the internet. If anyone has suggestions it would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks.

Try the internet with another browser like firefox if you still cannot connect you need to do a repair install to fix the system files
3 things which you can try
What steps should I attempt to possibly avoid reinstalling Microsoft® Windows® XP?
How do I perform a Repair Reinstall of Microsoft® Windows® XP?
How do I use the System Restore utility in the Microsoft® Windows® XP operating system?
