Try the following.  Get the latest Vista drivers for the wireless card from the Dell download site and have them ready on the problem computer.   Then, boot to Safe Mode and uninstall the wireless adapter.   Reboot to normal mode, cancel the "New Hardware Wizard", if it starts, then run the file you downloaded to reinstall the wireless adapter.   Let us know if that fixes the problem.

Hi,

What do you mean by this

"the [WLAN] card is now functioning properly and can connect to routers. However my computer is not able to connect to the internet, either by when connected through routers or with a direct connection."

Do you mean the WLAN connection status shows Connected but IE will not open webpages? Meaning it can ping default gateway but not websites? Or do you mean the wireless connection is now working fine but that your regular LAN (wired/ethernet) is not?

Please clarify.

Hi,

Yes sorry for being to vague, I meant that my wireless connection is now working fine but that your regular LAN (wired/ethernet) is not.

I am able to connect to a wireless network, but the not the internet. And if I plug in an ethernet cable my computer doesn't even recognize it.

I have noticed however today that while trying to diagnose why my computer would not complete the connection to the internet, that it now tells me that my "wireless network connection is not configured to use the IP protocol".

Thanks

I first un-installed only the wireless card, and found that my problems persisted, but after un-installing both my wireless and local internet card, I once again have access to the internet!

Thanks for you help, it's much appreciated.
