Internet will not work plugged in

I have an inspirion E1505 that is a year old.  I have always connect via wireless connection to the internet.  I have recently needed to plug y laptop into the internet.  I will have the cable plugged in, but it will show not plugged in.  I have uninstall and reinstalled the driver, updated the driver, and tried it at more than one location.  Is there a simple solution to this problem, or is the problem internal.  I have never plugged in the cable in the whole time I have owned it.  Of course it is no longer under warrenty...lol.  Thank you for any help you can offer...:).

I assume you have tried different ethernet cables just to make sure the problem is not just a faulty cable.   Does the link light next to the ethernet port light up when the cable is connected at both ends and both devices are powered on?   Does pushing the ethernet connector in or wiggling it in the port get the link lights to turn on.   It may be just a problem with the port or it could be a faulty network adapter.   In either case it would require some surgery on the motherboard to fix.  Have you run the diagnositics on the ethernet adapter?

Just went through this...you most likely have a bad PCI port or your cables are bad. I assume you are connected straight to your computer and not a router?
