IP Address

I just reformatted my computer and I installed my drivers just fine and I'm sure my wireless card is fine.  The only problem I'm having is when I try to connect to the internet it does however it says it cannot renew the IP address.  I may have had this problem a year or so ago but I don't remember how it got fixed.  I think the router my family uses (4 other computers besides mine 5 computers total) can hold up to five computers on it.  Anyways I was just wondering how to fix this problem I have a inspiron 1200 with a dell wireless and the router is from 2Wire.

Thanks!

Often using a LAN inside a home, users will encounter one or more PC's that refust to renew the IP address and bring the network back to a fully usable state. However this took care of that problem for us I hope it will for other XP home and PRO users.

  • Releasing and Renewing an IP address on Windows NT/2000/XP
    • Click the Start menu in the lower left hand part of the screen.
    • Click Run.
    • In the space provided type "ipconfig /release" and click OK. Note that there is a space between ipconfig and the /release.
    • To renew the IP address from the DOS prompt, type "ipconfig /renew". Note that there is a space between ipconfig and the /renew.
  • Releasing and Renewing an IP address on Windows XP
    • Click the Start menu in the lower left hand part of the screen.
    • Click Run.
    • In the space provided type "ipconfig /release" and click OK. Note that there is a space between ipconfig and the /release.
    • Type "ipconfig /renew". Note that there is a space between ipconfig and the /renew

    Another thing you might try-

right click on your internet connection, click on status...see what it says...might try clicking on the repair tab, and let it repair

    hope this helps.

I tried both your ideas and sadly they didn't work.  Apparently either my laptop or the router or something hates me.  Thanks though!
