Is a network card installed on C640

I am trying to connect a C640 to a network using the port located on the side of the machine. I get orange lights on the C640 and green on the router.  However via Dell Solutions, I get a report that No network card is installed.. If I plug into a C Dock, connection is immediate.... Do I have an internal network card or driver problem ??

I tried to check the "as-shipped" configuration of your C640 using the service tag you posted (thanks!), but unfortunately the site complains that the "as-shipped" configuration isn't available.

Does  Belarc Advisor see the integrated network adapter? Does it appear under Network adapters in the Device Manager? It the adapter enabled in the BIOS?

With that information it should be possible to determine if the integrated adapter has "disappeared".

Perhaps it is not the same problem. Where did you exactly find the "LAN controler" in Setup? I have browsed trought all pages in Setup, but still nothing. I know, that LAN and Ethernet are the same things in this cause.

Hi, I have got the same problem, but there are no flashing indicators on the card. I still can't find out the "Ethernet controler ENABLED X DISABLED" in BIOS Setup, as someone adviced me at the Dell help line. I also tried to flash a new version of BIOS (from A14 over A15 to A16), but - nothing

WebCZ.

If it is the same problem that I had, then the option you are looking for is not called Ethernet.

On p3 of the bios set up, look for the text " LAN controller" and enable this connection.  This is what confused me.

No light goes on, when I pluged in a network cable. I called the technical support here in the Czech rep. and they told me to enable it in the BIOS. At the page 3 of 7 I've got only "Boot Configuration - Boot POST; Dock Configuration - Docking status, Dock. Ethernet, Dock. IRQ and Universal Connect".
There are in fact two service tag numbers - one in BIOS (A23B2A7) and the second one at the bottom cover (4F264A00).

My Bios set up ( Pressing F2 during boot) has 7 pages, on P3 of these is a line " LAN Controller"

Have you used the Dell site to investigate the "As shipped" setup for you Laptop.  It may be you do not have a LAN controlled in the machine.

If you plug in your network cable, does any lights come on ???

If you have  no lights, then I suspect you have no Ethernet card or something is faulty.

Re two asset tags????. I would check on the one in BIOS. But sounds very stange to me.

Sorry cannot help futher

WebCZ,

I tried looking up both of those service tags, and both came up as "invalid". That's likely because the machine was shipped outside the US. The fact that there are two tags probably means the motherboard was replaced some time in the past.

(edit) Is the machine the 610 you're discussing in this thread? If it is, I guess you've solved the problem!

Did you try obtaining a copy of Belarc Advisor and letting it scan the machine?

Now I have got the other C610 mashine, but it's also not running NIC.
I can't still install the modem on a PCI bus. Please, can anyone advise me, where is the right driver for this ?
