i've got cable could i have dialup also?
at home i got roadrunner [cable], but on the weekends i go to my dads and he has dialup, is the 5100 laptop compatible with both cable and dialup?
i belive i've got a 16 prong plug in thing in the back of my laptop

There is a connection for an RJ-11 phone line connector on the right side of the laptop. The one you're seeing on the back is a 15-pin video connector. You should check that the XP Device Manager lists a device under "Modems", to be sure you actually have a modem device in your system.
