Latitude C600

Question

I have a 1ghz Pentium III Dell Latitude C600 and I am wondering if anyone knows how to get this thing to run wirelessly on my wireless linksys router.  It comes a 3com mini pci card but its only connecting by a LAN wire connection.  I bought a wireless NETGEAR WG511T Type II PC Card and it doesnt begin to recognize the card or want to install it and insists on using the 3com as my connection to the LAN.  Can anyone help me be able to get my laptop running wirelessly on my network?
