Latitude C800 NIC problem
First off, this is my first laptop and I am unfamiliar with them. Be that as it may, I keep getting the "network cable unplugged" message when I know it is a good cable and connection. Device manager says that my network adapter(s) are functioning properly. The indicator light does not come on when the cable is connected. I have to question if there is even one in there since I have never opened the cover of a laptop before. This was purchased used and other than this it works poerfectly. I have installed a fresh XP Pro on it.
Any help would be great and don't worry about making me feel stupid.

Following your fresh install of XP Pro it is necessary to also install the latest set of Dell Drivers and Utilitys for your system.
Look under "Product Support" upper left of this page for Reinstall Guides as well as Downloads & Drivers.
You will need to begin with Chipset Drivers and Notebook software which will aid in proper install of the other drivers.
The "monitor" drivers on that site are for external displays, you need the Video Driver for your installed card.
XP Pro has (for example) drivers for your touchpad, but the one from Dell will give you a lot more features.
This would be even more true for your network adapters.

Hi,
The message you get sounds like an intermittent connection. The socket in the computer may be damaged. http://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=714&prevaction=category&previd=15&prevstart=30 This is a link for a replacement. Try and wriggle the connection, and see what that does.
