Latitude D500 - Wireless anywhere setting it up

Hi i recently got a second hand d500 with next to no manuals, i am wanting to set it up so that i can connect to hotspots and so on. a friend of mine said i need to open it up and flick a switch. Is this true? if so how can i find out more on this? if it's not then, what aditional stuff do i need?
Thanks for any help

First thing you want to do is check to see if you have a wireless card installed by going into the bios setup. If the card is installed the second thing you want to do is enable it if it's not enabled. Once you boot into your operating system you can see if you have functionality of the card by hitting the FN+F2 buttons, this will toggle the radio off and on. If you do not have a card installed you can place an order through Dell Parts or you can find cards on eBay and laptop parts dealers online. The following wifi mini pci cards are available for your system.

Dell Trumobile 1350, 802.11b/g wireless mini pci card

Dell Trumobile 1450 , 802.11 a/b/g

Intel Pro/Wireless 2100 802.11b

Intel Pro/Wireless 2200 802.11 b/g
