Latitude d600 not recognizing Wireless LAN adapter

I have a latitude d600 running XP. I bought it used from my company that went under and i can not get it to recognize my wireless card. I have tried other wireless cards and i never even get power to them? The other laptop at the house works fine on my wireless network. My internal NIC card gets on the internet fine. My old company did not allow for wireless cards to be used. I went into the bios and everything is enabled that i can tell. Any ideas ?

badgrasscutter,

The Latitude D600 has a built-in wireless card.  There should be no need to install a PCMCIA wireless card on this model.  You can check the user guide for your system at this link:\

To insure that your system has a wireless card installed, check in Device Manager under Network Adapters to see if the internal wireless card is listed.  You should see an Intel Pro Wireless 2200 card listed.  It may be disabled, if so you can re-enable it and install the driver for it if necessary.  The driver can be found at this link:

<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

If you want to check for the presence of the factory installed wireless card, you can remove a small cover on the bottom of the computer (remove system battery and ac power first !) to see.  Check this link for instructions:

I opened it up and there is no wireless network card inside. The Bios also says wireless not installed. Any other ideas ?

badgrasscutter,

With the system turned off, install a wireless PCMCIA nic into the side slot on the computer.  Power the system up.  After Windows loads, check in Device Manager for a listing under Network Adapters or Other Devices for a reference to the card you put in.  It will probably have a yellow question mark or exclamation point next to it.  If it does, then all you need to do is install the driver for the card and you should be able to get onto your wireless network.
