LDAP

I'm looking to become more familiar with LDAP and would like to know if it's possible to install OpenLDAP on a stand alone pc that's not configured as a server. Apache has a free http server download, but the WinSock API is really kludgy if you're running any type of anti-virus software, firewall etc. If anyone knows of such a product, I'd appreciate any feedback.
