Lighting Storm - Desktop wont connect

Like a previous thread, I believe my house got struck by lighting. My Demension 4300 won't connect to the internet. My other computer is working fine. The desktop reads : Network cable disconnected...
I have tried to change the port, but with no result. I spend the better part of 3 hours on the phone with a dell representative who told me that nothing was wrong with my computer, and that I need to contact my ISP. (I have cable, btw). I don't understand that because my laptop works perfectly well on the network.

Can anyone help me!?! (please let me know if you need more information!)

Since a variety of different ethernet network adapters could have been shipped with your system, you would first need to know which netowrk adapter you have.  If the network adapter was shipped with your system, then the diagnostics should be in the Programs menu under the name of the manufacturer of the network adapter.  They can usually also be downloaded from the Dell Support site.  Without knowing which network adapter you have, I can't be more precise in telling you where to look.

I don't think I have. How do I go about doing that?
Thanks!

Lightening strikes can randomly affect computers and their components.  Have your tried running the diagnostics on your network adapter?
