Lightning strike
OK. I was there when it happened. Made me duck even though I was indoors.Hair stood on edge. It came through the TV/internet cable. Fried my cable boxes and modem. After new modem installed, discovered that router was working but not communicating. Connected lap top and confirmed connectivity through modem only. Computer (Dell) still works fine, but can not contact printer nor modem signal.. All power routed through 2X surge protection. printer will copy and scan, but not communicate with any computer. Summary: no communication with router, computer, printer. Is there a fix?

Start by plugging the computer and everything into a wall outlet--when all storms have passed. Normally when you have a severe strike like that, you have to replace the surge protector. It did its job. You need to run the hardware diagnostics. It sounds like the network card--which was also directly connected to the modem--got fried too. Remove the card if possible. If you have integrated network card, buy a usb adapter if all the other hardware passes.
