Limited Or No Connectivity: Wireless

Apparently I'm not the only one with this problem, but I recently got the Inspiron 9300 notebook and I'm having trouble getting internet connection. I bought a linksys router, installed and connected it, and the notebook appears to have 'excellent' connectivity, and my network is displayed. Another window then pops up saying that I have no connectivity, and I cannot get internet access. When I hook up to a cable, I still cannot get internet. However, I used a friends wireless router and it worked perfectly. My desktop is also hooked up to the router, and it gets connection. Does this make sense to anyone?

Yesterday I called Dell, spoke with them for 30 minutes, and was told to call Comcast. I called comcast, who told me to call linksys. I called linksys and waited for 45 minutes, but then gave up. Any help is greatly appreciated..

Are you running a third party firewall (McAfee or Norton)?  If so, either make sure it is configured to allow internet access, or disable it, or uninstall it as a troubleshooting step to make sure that is not what is causing the problem.   Also, if you changing the device connected to the cable modem without doing a complete reset of the network, then that will definitely cause the problem.  To do this, shut everything off. Wait about 5 minutes. Turn on the modem first, and wait another 5 minutes. Then turn on the device that is connected directly to the modem (either the router or the computer), then turn on any other computers that will connect through the router.

do that reset process from last message. then disable firewalls and and security software running. then let windows client manage the wireless card. dont use intel pro-software to run the card. hope this helps
